WELCOME
James Bathurst thanked Giovanni Crosta and his team at the University
of Milan-Bicocca for their efforts in organizing and running the workshop
of the previous day (as part of the Eco-Geowater Euroworkshop). He noted
that this was the last formal progress meeting of the partners and that
the emphasis was correspondingly on the actions needed to complete the
project on time on 28 February 2003.
2
REMAINING ACTIONS
1) U Newcastle and U Milan-Bicocca to circulate a list of model data
requirements.
2)
U Newcastle and U Milan-Bicocca to send one-page descriptions of their
models to Fausto for the web site.
3) Fausto, Mario and Giovanni have produced a draft web demonstration
linking the WP2 and WP3 models. A final version is to be produced.

DELIVERABLES
Progress
with the deliverables was checked to see that they would be available
at the end of the project:
D1 Debris flow relationships and database. Reports submitted.
D2 Debris flow maps and mapping procedures. A report on landslide hazard
mapping has been submitted. A final map (or set of maps) still to be
submitted.
**********ACTION: JOSE MARIA****
D3
Debris flow and rockfall database for GIS. A 5m x 5m DEM for Valsassina,
a landslide inventory for Valsassina and thematic maps are available.
D4 Hazard and risk asessment technology. Descriptions of the multivariate
statistical technique and of the rockfall modelling methodolgy, together
with results, will be submitted. **********ACTION: GIOVANNI******
D5 Review of rockfall and granular flow models. Report submitted.
D6 Debris flow database for impact model. Submitted.
D7 Debris flow impact model. Report and CD submitted.
D8 Debris flow impact scenario simulations. These are underway and a
timetable is in place to complete the work before the end of the project.
*********ACTION: JAMES********
D9 Guidelines for basin management. These are in production and a timetable
is in place to complete the work before the end of the project.
*********ACTION: JAMES********
D10 End-users trained in project technologies. Training courses have
been and are about to be held.
D11 Project technologies in public domain. Achieved by the training
courses, workshops, web site and published papers.
D12 Proposal for standard approach to zonation. To be achieved with
D4
and the training of end-users.

FINAL REPORT
The
final report must be sent to the EC by 30 April 2003. James will circulate
details of the report content in January. Reports can be submitted as
soon as convenient (ie once each partner's work is complete) but must
reach James no later than 24 March.
5
TIP
James
will inform the full contractors of the procedure for completing the
electronic TIP in January. The TIP should be completed by 24 March.
6
COSTS
Partners
should check that they do not overspend and also do not substantially
underspend their budgets. The University partners in particular need
to catch up on their spending in this year. Giovanni to write to James
about the changed use of his subcontract funds.
**********ACTION: GIOVANNI*****

PUBLICATIONS AND CONFERENCES
Three
papers are under review for the Third International Conference on Debris-Flow
Hazards Mitigation at Davos in September 2003. Other publishing opportunities
are EGU at Nice in April 2003 and Interpraevent 2004. Jose maria will
circulate details of a meeting in Armenia.
**********ACTION: JOSE MARIA****
PLEASE
REMEMBER TO SEND TWO COPIES OF ALL PUBLICATIONS TO JAMES FOR FORWARDING
TO THE EC.

FRAMEWORK PROGRAMME 6
All
partners had joined the consortium for the Expression of Interest CASSIOPEIA
in June. However, the relevant workprogramme is such that this proposal
cannot continue. It is also difficult to see how the DAMOCLES consortium
can continue, at least for an integrated project. Opportunities may
lie in Networks of Excellence and in the Marie Curie training and mobility
scheme. The workprogramme contains a call for an integrated project
on Integrated Earthquake and Landslide Disaster Management Methodology.
James is in touch with a possible proposal consortium and will keep
partners informed as appropriate.
9
TABLE OF PARTNER INFORMATION
There
has not been any change in partner information.
10
FORMAL END OF MEETING
James
thanked the partners for their tremendous support, collaboration and
cooperation during the project. This had made his job as coordinator
both easy and pleasurable. Jose Maria responded on behalf of the partners,
thanking James for his coordination efforts and for keeping them on
track during the project.
